Custom Framing

Custom Framing

Over 1,000 moulding and mat choices, a large stock of ready-made frames, and a framing bench in the same building as the print shop. Bring in the piece, or the file, and we’ll work out the frame together.

Print and frame together

Which comes first, the frame or the print?

Most framing jobs start with a piece that needs something first: an old photograph that wants restoring, a painting that needs a faithful reproduction, or a file that hasn’t been printed yet.

Because our printers and framers work side by side, the two are planned as one job. The frame can be chosen for the print, or the print can be adjusted to suit the frame: a slightly warmer tone, a different paper, a border. Either way, the colors of the print and the frame are chosen to work together, and the finished piece hangs as one thing.

What we offer

Custom, Ready-Made or Frameless

Custom Frames

Choose from more than 1,000 mouldings and mats. Our framers cut, join and fit everything here, so the frame is made for your piece and not the other way around.

Ready-Made Frames

A large inventory of standard-size frames for when you want it on the wall this week. Bring your print in and we’ll find one that fits.

Frameless Displays

Not everything wants a frame. Stretched canvas, metal prints with a gloss or satin finish, plexi prints, and photos mounted to foam or gatorboard with a hanger on the back all go straight onto the wall. We keep samples at the counter and will talk through which suits the image and the room.

From the bench

Chosen for the Piece

No two pieces get the same frame. The moulding, the mat and the depth are picked to suit what’s inside, not the other way around. Three from the bench:

A Reproduction Print

A dark, ornate moulding and a black inner mat, so the frame reads as part of the painting rather than a border around it.

A Photograph

A carved gold frame and a wide cream mat with a thin dark line. The quiet image gets room to breathe; the frame carries the warmth.

An Object

A butterfly in a deep shadowbox: stacked mats step down to the piece and a simple black frame keeps the attention on it.

How framing works

From Piece to Wall

1

Bring It In

Bring the piece itself, or the file if it still needs printing. A photo of the wall it’s going on helps, too.

2

We Design It Together

One of our framers lays out moulding and mat samples against your piece and talks through the choices. You get a price before anything is cut.

3

We Build It

Cutting, joining, matting and fitting all happen in our shop, by the same framer you spoke with.

4

Pick It Up

See the finished piece on the counter before you take it home.
