Restoration & Editing

Photo Restoration & Editing

Torn, stained and faded photographs brought back. Portraits retouched. People added to the group shot. Colors matched to the original art. Our editors do this work by hand, one image at a time.

What we fix

A Few Things Our Editors Do

Restoration

Tears, stains, creases, water damage, missing corners and faded color. We scan the original, repair the image, and print it fresh. The original comes back to you untouched.

Portrait Retouching

Wrinkles softened, blemishes removed, a stray hair or a distracting background cleaned up, done with a light hand so the person still looks like themselves.

Adding or Removing People

The one relative who missed the family photo, added in. The ex, taken out. Group shots combined from several frames so everyone has their eyes open.

Color Matching for Art

For reproductions of paintings and drawings, we match the print to the original under the lights at the counter, so the copy is faithful to the piece.

Enhancement for Printing

Sharpening, color and density adjustments, and resizing so a phone snapshot or an old scan prints as well as it possibly can.

Scanning Comes First

Most restoration starts with a good scan. If you have the original print, slide or negative, bring it in and we’ll scan it here.

How it works

From Damaged to Done

1

Show Us the Photo

Bring the original in, or upload a scan. Tell us what you’d like fixed and what you plan to do with it afterward.

2

We Quote It

Every job is different, so one of our editors looks at the image and gives you a price before starting.

3

We Do the Work

Repairs are made by hand, by an editor, on a copy of your scan. The original is never altered.

4

Approve and Print

You see the result before it’s printed, then choose a paper, size and frame.

Questions People Ask Us

It depends on how much work the image needs. A light cleanup is quick; rebuilding missing areas takes longer. Our editors quote each job after seeing it, so there are no surprises.
For the best result we scan the original here, which usually takes only a few minutes. You can wait, or leave it and pick it up with the finished print.
Often, yes. A straight-on photo of a print, in even light, can be enough for many repairs. For the best quality, bring the original in to be scanned.
Our editors aim for a repair you can’t see, not a new picture. The goal is the photograph as it looked the day it was taken.
